PA Student Loan Relief for Nurses (SLRN) Employer Information

The SLRN Program provides a financial incentive, in the form of student loan relief, for nurses who have worked tirelessly fighting the COVID-19 pandemic to continue within the nursing profession.

Qualified SLRN applicants could be selected to receive student loan relief of up to $2,500 for each year of work (beginning with 2020) for no more than 3 years (2020, 2021, and 2022), with the maximum benefit of $7,500.

To extend the student loan relief, PHEAA must verify the employment of each selected nurse. This page answers commonly asked questions.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and PHEAA thank you for your efforts and assistance in getting the valued nurses in PA the relief that they have earned through their hard work and dedication. Your support of them during their employment has made that possible.

Employer’s Role

PHEAA is counting on you, the employer, to certify that the nurses selected for the SLRN Program have completed the employment requirements necessary for participation in the program. Nurses will provide their employers with an Employment Certification Form and a deadline for when the form must be completed and returned to PHEAA. Use the Employment Certification Form to certify the nurse's employment with your organization.

Next Steps

When you receive the Employment Certification Form from the nurse, provide complete information for each year (2020, 2021, and 2022) the nurse was employed by your organization. If the nurse was not employed by your organization for a particular year, leave that year’s section blank.

As a reminder, you should:

  • Complete the Employment Certification Form accurately for the nurse that has been or is employed by the organization
  • Scan and email the form directly to PHEAA at slrn@pheaa.org using your organizational email address.
  • Return the Employment Certification Form by the deadline the nurse provides.

Failure to return the Employment Certification Form directly to PHEAA on or by the deadline while using your organizational email address will result in the nurse losing their eligibility in the SLRN Program.

We will not process forms returned from the applicant’s or employer’s personal email address.
