Early Awareness Workshops for Elementary and Middle School Counselors and Teachers

Previously, PHEAA sponsored its annual workshops for counselors and teachers from elementary and middle schools in 26 locations throughout the state. Over 350 teachers and counselors attended these sessions.

Schools received a special invitation from the Regional Director who served the school. The invitation included a registration form and a list of workshop sites in the area; however, there was no restriction to attending workshops at other locations across the state.

The Early Awareness Workshops provided a comprehensive understanding of the free materials that PHEAA has produced to be used in the classroom with students in grades 1-8. This year information was provided from PDE relating to the recently passed Career Standards. This workshop also provided an opportunity to see Education Planner, the award winning PHEAA website for career exploration. These workshops provided a forum to share ‘best practices’ with other professionals.

Any counselor or teacher who attended a workshop received Act 48 credits. Staff from community organizations that work with youth in grades 1-8 were also in attendance at the workshops. If information about the upcoming 2008-09 workshops is needed, please contact the Regional Office that serves your school.
