Harrisburg, PA (February 18, 2014)—The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) announced today that Representative William F. Adolph, Jr. has been re-elected as chairman of the PHEAA Board of Directors. Senator Wayne D. Fontana has been re-elected as vice chairman of the PHEAA Board.

Representative Adolph has represented Delaware County's 165th Legislative District since 1989. He serves as the majority Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and as a member of the House Rules Committee. He has served as Chairman of the PHEAA board since 2007.

"It's a special honor to serve Pennsylvania students and families as Chairman of the PHEAA Board - especially considering the various challenges that many of them must deal with when planning for a higher education," said Representative William Adolph, PHEAA Board Chairman. "Collectively, my colleagues on the Board offer a wealth of real-world education, financial and business experience that helps us address the changing needs of students and families on behalf of the Commonwealth."

PHEAA was created in 1963 by the Pennsylvania General Assembly and has since evolved into one of the nation's leading student aid organizations. The agency's earnings are used to support its public service mission and to pay its operating costs, including administration of the Pennsylvania State Grant and other student aid programs. This saves taxpayers millions of dollars each year while ensuring that every dollar that is appropriated to a Pennsylvania student aid program goes directly to our students.

"As a government leader and public servant, it is especially rewarding to know that the work of the Board can have such a positive influence on the lives of so many students and their families," said Senator Wayne D. Fontana. "I look forward to working with Chairman Adolph and my colleagues on the Board as we continue to find new ways to enhance access to higher education throughout Pennsylvania."

Senator Fontana has represented the 42nd Senatorial District, Allegheny County, since 2005. He serves as the Democratic Caucus Administrator and Minority Chairman of the Senate Community, Economic and Recreational Development Committee. Senator Fontana has served as a member of the PHEAA Board since 2008.

PHEAA is also pleased to announce that the following Members have been elected to serve on its Executive Committee.

  • Representative James R. Roebuck, Jr. (D-Philadelphia) - Vice Chairman
