Harrisburg, PA (February 23, 2012)—The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) announced today that Representative William F. Adolph, Jr. has been re-elected to chair the PHEAA Board of Directors for the sixth consecutive year. Senator Wayne D. Fontana has been re-elected as vice chairman of the PHEAA Board.

Representative Adolph has represented Delaware County's 165th Legislative District since 1989. He serves as the majority Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and as a member of the House Rules Committee. He was appointed to the PHEAA Board in 2001, serving as a member of the Board's Executive Committee from 2003 through 2006.

"We've taken great pride in being able to help guide PHEAA through a series of reforms and restructuring to emerge a stronger and more committed public servant for the Commonwealth," said Representative Adolph. "Sound business decisions combined with fiscal prudence have better positioned PHEAA to support its mission, while also providing a $50 million financial contribution to the State Grant Program, benefiting thousands of students who may otherwise have not received a State Grant award."

PHEAA was created in 1963 by the Pennsylvania General Assembly and has since evolved into one of the nation's leading student aid organizations. The agency's earnings are used to support its public service mission and to pay its operating costs, including administration of the Pennsylvania State Grant and other state-funded student aid programs.

"Serving on PHEAA's Board of Directors is especially rewarding since we are so intensely involved in making decisions that can positively affect the lives of so many Pennsylvania students and their families," said Senator Fontana. "I look forward to working with Chairman Adolph and my colleagues on the Board as we continue to identify new ways to improve access to higher education in Pennsylvania."

Senator Fontana has represented the 42nd Senatorial District, Allegheny County, since 2005. He serves as the Democratic Caucus Administrator, Minority Chairman of the Senate Community, Economic and Recreational Development Committee and as a member on the Senate Appropriations Committee. Senator Fontana has served as a member of the PHEAA Board since 2008.

PHEAA is also pleased to announce that the following Members have been elected to serve on its Executive Committee.

Representative James R. Roebuck, Jr. (D-Philadelphia) - Vice Chairman
Senator Vincent J. Hughes (D-Philadelphia)
