Harrisburg, PA (December 13, 2010)—PHEAA announced today that Representative Mike Carroll has been appointed to its Board of Directors by Speaker of the House, Representative Keith McCall. Representative Carroll will serve the remaining balance of Senator-elect John Yudichak's term, which is set to expire on June 30, 2011.

Representing the 118th Legislative District (Luzerne and Monroe Counties), Representative Carroll has been serving the community since first elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2006.

He has served on the House Education committee for the past four years, and is also a member of the House Transportation, Agriculture, State Government, and Environmental Resources and Energy committees.

Representative Carroll's new position on the PHEAA Board of Directors provides him the opportunity to encourage students to continue their education and to help guide them in affording it.

"I'm a strong believer in the important work that PHEAA does for the betterment of our students and the entire Commonwealth," said Representative Carroll. "I look forward to helping to further those efforts as a member of the PHEAA Board of Directors."

"We welcome Representative Carroll to the Board," said Representative William Adolph, Jr., PHEAA Board Chairman. "Mike will bring a fresh perspective to our Board that will help guide us in our efforts to address various issues facing the students, families and postsecondary schools of Pennsylvania."

A lifelong resident of Avoca in Luzerne County, Representative Carroll is a graduate of the University of Scranton. He is active in his local community, serving on the Board of Directors of the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick in Pittston, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Avoca Division, the Western Pocono Lions Club and West End Rotary Club.
