PHEAA Offers Free Financial Aid Guidance

Statewide 2008-09 FAFSA Completion Workshops Scheduled

Harrisburg, PA (January 9, 2008) - PHEAA will offer more than 50 FAFSA Completion Workshops at locations throughout Pennsylvania on Saturday, February 9. The free workshops, for college-bound students, their parents and school counselors, provide the opportunity to get personalized help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the chance to ask questions related to the financial aid process.

The FAFSA is a federal form that all families need to submit to determine if they qualify for almost all forms of need-based financial assistance, including the Pennsylvania State Grant, Federal Pell Grant, many scholarships and institutional awards, and low-cost student loans.

Although February 9 is the date for PHEAA's statewide FAFSA Completion event, there are other individual workshops scheduled from January through March. A schedule of all FAFSA Completion Workshops is available at pheaa.org/fafsa.

"Each year, tens of thousands of Pennsylvania families don't complete their FAFSA in time to meet the various deadlines for financial assistance," notes Representative William Adolph, Jr., Chairman of the PHEAA Board. "To be sure you qualify for all the aid available, it is best to plan ahead and be sure you submit your FAFSA prior to your earliest financial aid deadline."

Also available at pheaa.org/fafsa is a 2008-09 FAFSA on the Web Worksheet to help walk users through the form step-by-step. Since the U.S. Department of Education will only send paper FAFSAs to schools or individuals who personally request a paper form, families are encouraged to complete the FAFSA online at pheaa.org/fafsa. Completing the FAFSA online cuts down on errors and offers a quicker turn-around time for results.
