After your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) is processed, you will receive a FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS) either by email or through the U.S. Mail (depending on how you applied and whether you provided a valid email address).
Check the Status of Your FAFSA
If you completed the FAFSA online, you can check the status in about 1 week. If you submitted a paper FAFSA, please allow 2–3 weeks before you check the status.
Read Your FSS
Review your FSS carefully for any mistakes.
Your FSS summarizes the information on your FAFSA and identifies your Student Aid Index (SAI). The FSS helps schools determine your financial aid eligibility.
Review Your SAI
Schools use your SAI to calculate your financial need and determine what types of financial aid you are eligible to receive.
Correct Your FSS
After you review your FSS, make any required corrections and submit updates or provide additional information as necessary.
Be Prepared to Verify Your FAFSA
The U.S. Department of Education and many schools may require that you verify some of the data on your FAFSA to ensure its accuracy. Typically, financial aid is not disbursed until the verification process is complete.
